About the Work
This painting is a memory.
A year ago, I lived in the mountains — surrounded by monasteries, meditation centres, and the gentle rhythm of monks walking through quiet markets. Life felt simple. Intentional. Sacred in its ordinariness.
I had imagined building my art studio there, waking each morning to stillness and creating in solitude. When that chapter closed unexpectedly, it left a quiet ache. For months, I struggled to paint. The pause felt heavy — personally and professionally.
Golden Glow of Solitude emerged from that space of longing.
Created in layered mixed media, the piece carries warmth through deep ochres and burnt golds. Gold leaf was patiently applied to the background, symbolising light that remains even when plans shift. The textured surface holds time within it — months of revisiting, refining, waiting.
This Buddha does not represent escape.
It represents acceptance.
It reflects the understanding that peace is not tied to a location, but something we learn to carry within ourselves.
A tribute to the mountains.
And to returning stronger.
